We were very pleased be commissioned to make a replica of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s silver travelling canteen for season 3 of Outlander.

This elaborate set of travelling cutlery and two wine beakers was made by the Edinburgh goldsmith Ebenezer Oliphant in 1740-41, and may have been a 21st birthday gift for Prince Charles Edward Stuart . It is held on exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh .

It was a very detailed, complicated and  time consuming process but we were determind to be a faithful as possible to the original.Working closely from hi res images supplied by the museum a  lifesize copy was hand modelled in chemiwood, wax and pewter  and cast into resin.

Working with Ross Morgan at Morganic Metal Solutions Ltd , and using their advanced nanotechnology, the final model was encapusalted in copper and then silver plated.

One of the beakers was also reproduced in silver with a   gold plated interior as well as  a cruet, a teaspoon and marrow scoop, a corkscrew, a nutmeg grater and a knife and fork. These were also gold plated over a silver and copper base.

Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites, a great exhibtion at the National Museum of Scotland  opened this year with details of the influences on the Outlander series on their webite.
